Cleaning Psycho-ness

Occasionally I get this weird thing, where I feel like I should get rid of everything. It’s probably good, it’s like a mini minimalist kick and it’s usually localized (closets, drawers, objects, specific rooms). This time it was centered on my living room. I wasn’t feeling well and all I saw was a ton of crap all over my living room. That’s not all there was, there’s furniture too…but yeah, it was annoying me but I didn’t have any energy to do anything about it. So today, I finally felt human again and decided to tackle all of our random paper and documents and stuff that just sort of pile into a hideous mess of crap that we don’t need. The smart thing to do would be to scan and shred, but I don’t have a shredder, so I just re-organized everything important and trashed everything that we didn’t need.
That one magazine box I made in 2010…it’s gone now. I still have magazines in a cardboard box (the one I used to put gloves and hats in, I should move them into a drawer instead of my laundry basket…which I use for clothes because we have a very small dresser that’s very hard to share and it’s storing out of season clothes right now) but the quantity of magazines is half of what it was, and it’s only ones that are interesting. ^.^

Magazine Box

I also went through all of our files in my (one) file box and organized them, labeled the last two year’s folders of tax documents and put all of the ones for this year, so far, in a manilla envelope (I really need to get another file box thing one of these days), I cleaned out both night stand drawers (one is holding our tv and one is in our bedroom) and all the random papers that were just around. Everything now is squished in it’s folder, pictures are in a box, and the red side table that used to house the heavy magazine box is finally moved to the middle of the room, which Alex thinks adds a nice little bit of modern-ness to the room (which is awesome).

Table in the middle

In my dreams, I would have a modernly decorated home with a bohemian master bedroom. I think design wise this year, I’m going to be trying to incorporate those (now that I have a direction, ha!) as much as I can with what I have…and maybe this year, I’ll actually make it back to ikea. 😉

I also found a home for Darth Vader.

Purple Space

I painted my white space purple. The painting looks “textured”, with multiple hues of reds and purple with shots of cerulean and in the corner, in white, I wrote “love” and called it good. I might add some more plum elements just to pull in the curtains more overtly, but at the moment, even with less plum, it ties things in rather nicely.
Room (redesigned) with painted canvas I haven’t done anything to the bedroom since, but I did give my bookshelf and The Flux some attention. I took down my animal/fairy display from the bookshelf so I could put more books on it.
Book Shelf, now with more books!
So, then I moved my awesome animal and fairy display into The Flux. I put the three cardboard boxes that I was keeping (after I got rid of a ton of others earlier) to use and covered them with some leftover cloak material and made myself a little corner.

I also moved the desk off the green screen so we can use it again, and moved my sewing machine to floor so we can actually use the desk (currently, prop-making). Eventually, we’ll need to get another desk…

New {year} New {room}

I joined Creative Every Day and the theme this month is “new”. Fitting, for a new year – new goals, new resolutions, a new day with no mistakes in it (yet).
So this new year (month, really), I’ve decided to give my bedroom (and bathroom, to a lesser extent) a makeover. And by makeover, I mean, actually do something thought out and less random. A few months ago I did that for my living room – which has blue and red accents – all the paintings are blue, the side table, curtain, and throw blanket are red. The furniture doesn’t match but at least the walls and colors are relatively coordinated and it looks good enough (with a tan and red blanket over the black futon to match/contrast the brown couch) that I’m happy with it when it’s clean.
So my bedroom and bathroom have been the last to be coordinated. My kitchen is fairies (and I finally made a tablecloth today – grey with a sort of sheen) and our studio doesn’t have a theme…besides a giant green screen and a desk trying to be more things than it has room for.
My bathroom is blue & green and has frogs. It’s adorable now.

My bedroom, which is what I really want to get into, is going to be awesome. I’m getting into purple again, purples and reds and some blues. I made a painting that my husband lit as the inspiration piece/color scheme for the rest.
new bedroom piece...I feel like reds and purples are just so…rich and kind of perfect. The way they react and contrast with each other and work against our light green wall. It’s like a mix of sensual, romantic, and serene – kind of perfect for a bedroom if you ask me. The way it glows when the lights are turned on inside gives it the stained glass look that I was going for which adds an element of richness and…something I can’t put a name to. But it’s great and new and my husband is psyched too. I’ve got a 2 foot by 3 foot canvas to make a focal piece sometime this month and plans to refinish my nightstand into something that matches the color scheme.

So this is my new contribution. I’m giving our room a much needed *something* and I’m really excited about it.
