Weekly Painting Promo #3

I was gone on Monday, so I decided to use one of my already-available paintings for my Thing-A-Week promo and discount it and hopefully bring it a little love. It’s already been on sale on etsy for a couple days and if you’re a fan of Kiery’s Whimsy on Facebook you’ve already seen it, but if not, here it is:

My third painting my Harry Potter tribute, The Golden Snitch. It’s gotten less love than the others, but I love it – I worked really hard getting the snitch to look like a snitch flying over a distant field. I thought it turned out well, however, I’m going to need to take new pictures of it because I’m not really happy with how the pictures look – it’s way cooler in real life. But, what’s not to love about the snitch?!

So, until Monday, it’s $10 off of the normal price *and* discounted shipping, check it out!

ETA: Fixed the pictures!

You know that Moment

When you make something and you love it and are proud of it and aren’t really sure you want to sell it?

That.

Today.
The TARDIS.
I bought two 7×14 canvases the other day so I could use my acrylics again, and this was the first thing I decided to do.

And also, yesterday, I was interviewed on Home Life Simple and featured on Harvesting a Legacy!

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey

Recently Alex and I started watching the 2005 Doctor Who – although we started in season 5 (2010) with Matt Smith (!!!!).
We….I’ve become somewhat enamored and geeking out over anything TARDIS or Doctor related. So, today, I decided to take Alex’s suggestion and paint something Who-ish. I wanted to show the TARDIS in an in-between state, so I allowed the paint to drip unevenly and added swirls around it to depict having just left or entered traveling and the TARDIS beginning to establish it’s form. All I can hear in my head is the parking break being left on. 😉

Life
I listed some art cards on etsy today so I can trade, and also, because I thought it would be fun. I’ve also joined a team that started organizing a promotion system that I’m really excited about.
I also spent much of the afternoon cleaning and re-organizing my office. I moved my art stuff back in there and got my easel set up (learning to paint standing up, it is actually helpful). I emptied a box holding junk and organized the junk and put it away so now Tonks has a little box to sit inside that he likes. He actually likes to sit under anything. Then I put up a bunch of my watercolors that I had laying around and the ones that aren’t taped to the wall are in my portfolio.

Food
Alex and I have been enjoying the new grocery store that expanded and reopened. Yesterday we got some fresh buns and made hamburgers for dinner tonight. They were really tasty. We’re also addicted to Izze (sparkling juice they sell at starbucks) turns out it’s actually healthy for you.

Win.

Fangirl

So, I recently brainstormed and thought: how cool would it be to make small acrylic paintings based on Harry Potter spells? Might have something to do with listening to the audio books everyday, but I thought it would be fun, so I started with Lumos (as that’s the one I’ve spent the most time working on in my head).

Note to self: add the wand first. I initially was going for something that looked slightly more like Hermione’s wand – with some curls and stuff, but that didn’t work out, and then I spent the rest of the time lightening it and adding swirls of  light over it.
I also tried out my new watercolor paper – I have some things I need to paint to send to friends this month (and this is one of them), so the picture I’m posting is just a portion of the actual thing, but OMG I *love* the cold press paper that I got. Soooooo much smoother. I’m never going back!
I decided to recreate a design I’d already tried, but a little differently. Mostly because I used watercolor as opposed to acrylics and didn’t glue paper on top…of my paper. Can’t wait to play with it more /all I have to say.
