So today I painted my last canvass and as promised, spent a lot of time on detail and shades. I think it turned out beautifully – everything in the foreground has multiple shades and hues, some subtle, some obvious – topped off (actually I started off) with some pixie dust/sparkles just for fun.

Last December, I started my art journey…and I recently found the picture that I started with. So, to give an idea of how far I’ve come in a year, Alex put the first drawing and my most recent painting side by side. I’m proud.

Over the weekend Alex and I decided to pick up some clay and explore the world of miniatures. On Sunday night we baked a few pieces and yesterday I painted mine. The tall tree-like piece was the most interesting because I had used some candle wax to mold it around. While it was cooking the…

This week I made an announcement about the book I’ve been illustrating (and writing), so I’ve been trying to get the final copy formatted. After uploading the initial cover I realized I need a back cover to go with the front cover. I decided it’d be better to paint it to keep the style together,…

I know it seems like I’ve been abandoning this blog over the last month except for a few birthday posts, but I really have been busy. All month I’ve been writing and illustrating a children’s book (something I swore off earlier this year, I need to stop Jinxing myself). Long story short, I finished in…

I finished all of the watercolor illustrations today, now Ella can format them and create the book. I’ve learned a lot since I started working on them – mostly in the mechanics of watercolor and using them effectively. I won’t say I’ve mastered it, but I’ve come so far from when I first started. I…

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part one came out last week, and I, like a good Harry Potter fan dressed up and went to see it opening night (not midnight, because sadly, the tickets were sold out weeks before when we tried to get them). Because it was freezing, I decided to make a…

Tuesday was the last Oil Painting class (that I missed, stupid soup) so yesterday, I decided to move my materials out of the bag they were in and into my office. Somewhere between transport I actually looked at my office, and the closet doors ajar from cardboard boxes, the cluttered floor, and stuff everywhere, and…

1. I love waking up to your hugs and a smile every morning 2. I love your silly noises 3. I love the notes you leave around the house occasionally 4. I love your cooking 5. and your mad skillz 6. I love watching you sing and dance 7. I love how you listen and…

I usually move between the office and living room depending on the time of day that I paint. During the afternoon I’m in the office because Alex is working in the living room and there’s more room in the office. At night, I’ll move to the living room so we can watch TV or movies…
