Fun Stuff

I hit level 75 in WoW today, finally! I’ve been super super awful about playing lately, so today I decided to just do that instead of sitting at my computer debating about doing that, story boarding, or making the bed and spending the whole time flicking through facebook, etsy, pinterest, and random blogs until I came to a conclusion. Yeah, that’s usually what happens when I can’t decide what to do next.
Also, our new, bigger, muslin green-screen and clamps and lens cleaner came in today! so I expect that I’ll be spending the evening playing with the green screen and maybe doing some more storyboarding.

Etsy

Yesterday I launched the 2nd painting in my Thing-A-Week promo. So far it’s all watercolors that I’ve painted before and wasn’t sure about listing. I’ve been wanting to list them, but just didn’t know how to introduce them, but then I started the Thing-A-Week, and it just seemed perfect, so this weeks watercolor painting is Blue Shadows.

 New Look

You might have noticed, also, that I changed some things on the front page. I created a logo, favicon, and updated the banner. I also redesigned my etsy banner and profile images – finally. Last night I was finally able to get a copy of Fireworks CS3 running on my macbook pro. I’ve been trying for ages but it never actually worked – until last night. So I spent all evening updating my banners and such and enjoying playing with that again. It looks sooooo much better than before.

Reading

I finished Faerie Wars the other day and started The Last Unicorn. Faerie wars was amazing and I can’t wait to get the other books from the library. I’m a little over half-way through The Last Unicorn, and at first it wasn’t as interesting, but then I ended up spending all of yesterday afternoon glued to the pages. I have a lot of ideas and new images for when I start painting again. I’ve taken a break, unintentionally – moving furniture around has some of my painting-ness a little discombobulated. I need to find another corner for my easel.

Fairy Stories

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that was incredibly hard to put down. I started reading Faerie Wars last night and read it after I woke up/ate lunch and have had a really hard time stopping. I’m really late to the discovery of fantasy as I never really had much of a taste or imagination for it growing up, but now I absolutely love it.
I was hoping that reading some fantasy books would help me get some visual ideas and some fairy lore and generally keep me involved and inspired and it has. It’s a great feeling to be reading a story again, immersed in another world. Sometimes I forget how much I miss it. My story-reading has sort of failed the last few years, but I think I might need to pick it back up again, because what’s life without taking a journey through pages?

You know that Moment

When you make something and you love it and are proud of it and aren’t really sure you want to sell it?

That.

Today.
The TARDIS.
I bought two 7×14 canvases the other day so I could use my acrylics again, and this was the first thing I decided to do.

And also, yesterday, I was interviewed on Home Life Simple and featured on Harvesting a Legacy!

It's Friday

Now that I have Rebecca Black stuck in everyone’s head….I painted the Eleventh Doctor today (Alex has great ideas).
I realized that watercolor isn’t exactly the best for portraits, at least not when I make them watery…but still, I’m pleased. When I get some canvases again, I’ll have to make another and see the differences. I added details to his coat and of course, added the sonic.

After that, I had an idea for an ACEO, which is basically just a mini version of the painting I made yesterday…but with words.
I made this in reference to “The Doctor’s wife” (Season 6 Episode 4). Which we watched last night on the Apple TV and was just awesome.
Life
In between the paintings I went to check out the farmers market, and then Alex eventually went to Starbucks to work so I could work out. Since Alex usually works in the living room…which is where I need space, it usually works out for him to get a change of scenery and it seems to help him concentrate. Then I can bounce around the living room until I get tired.
Food
I made eggs for lunch today and cleaned out the fridge a little. Tonight I think we’re going to go out and watch a movie. 😀

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey

Recently Alex and I started watching the 2005 Doctor Who – although we started in season 5 (2010) with Matt Smith (!!!!).
We….I’ve become somewhat enamored and geeking out over anything TARDIS or Doctor related. So, today, I decided to take Alex’s suggestion and paint something Who-ish. I wanted to show the TARDIS in an in-between state, so I allowed the paint to drip unevenly and added swirls around it to depict having just left or entered traveling and the TARDIS beginning to establish it’s form. All I can hear in my head is the parking break being left on. 😉

Life
I listed some art cards on etsy today so I can trade, and also, because I thought it would be fun. I’ve also joined a team that started organizing a promotion system that I’m really excited about.
I also spent much of the afternoon cleaning and re-organizing my office. I moved my art stuff back in there and got my easel set up (learning to paint standing up, it is actually helpful). I emptied a box holding junk and organized the junk and put it away so now Tonks has a little box to sit inside that he likes. He actually likes to sit under anything. Then I put up a bunch of my watercolors that I had laying around and the ones that aren’t taped to the wall are in my portfolio.

Food
Alex and I have been enjoying the new grocery store that expanded and reopened. Yesterday we got some fresh buns and made hamburgers for dinner tonight. They were really tasty. We’re also addicted to Izze (sparkling juice they sell at starbucks) turns out it’s actually healthy for you.

Win.

Six and a Raider

Today is grey. Painting Six and a Raider from BSG in a grey ship just seemed appropriate. I’m now down to my last canvas and in dire need of better detail brushes. I spent a long time trying to get the cold metallic-y feel and lighting down and contrasting with Six’s cold-yet-hott-(and kinda confusing) demeanor. I’m really happy with how it turned out.
What I’ve learned about the Sixes from BSG is that they use everything to their advantage – they come off as cold towards humans (except maybe Baltar) but they care very very deeply and will do everything in their power to make the world right (as they see it).
